Default my worst fear came true :/

well as the title sais my fear did come true. while trying to switch that crank position sensor i accidentally dropped one of the bolts down the opening in transmission where the sensor goes. now i dont know if i can drive it safely. can i fish that thing out? or do i have to drop the transmission and go from there?
heres some pics i took.

Have you taken the inspection cover off yet?

Step one: Go to auto parts store.
Step two: Buy magnet on a stick.
Step three: Go fishing.

This is where you start. Take the cover off the front of the trans and see if it fell all the way down. It may be easy to grab, it may be sitting between the torque converter and the flex plate. DO NOT spin the engine over using the starter until you get it out. Turn by hand.

I can't tell from the pics...can you see it down there? I would try fishing with the magnet first, if no luck there, get a 3/4" box wrench handy, 18mm socket, and if I recall correctly 13 or 14mm? for the inspection cover.

Pull the inspection plate, start the other bolt in the bellhousing, get magnet on stick, fish, plug in CPS, unplug main coil on dizzy, turn engine over so flywheel will spin and see if that shoots the bolt out. That's what I did

**** like this always happens to me whenever I'm working on my XJ. I've grown to think of it as its her way of saying she wants to spend more time with me.
Plus, she seems to always give me **** whenever I jump in her after driving my wife's car....... They really do have a personality of their own......

yeah that's what I'm thinkin'. I don't know..I think my worst fear would be losing my eyesight or something. Dropping a bolt into the bellhousing would be way down the line
