Well, it's been a few days with no responses, so I guess there aren't many who are familiar with them. A water pump replacement isn't a bad job, so maybe the cost of the bet isn't too high for a roll of the dice.

When you pick it up, spin it in your hand to see how it feels. If there's any roughness, pass!

I put a Duralast unit in mine. I figure if it lasts 2-3 years, I'll swap it out with the rest of the components on that coolant service.

FWIW I got 2 different bad out of the box Murray water pumps from oreillys last week. Parts quality across the board of ANY brand has been a complete wash for several years now .

I bought a Flowkooler from Quadratec when I went through the whole cooling system and it works great. Quality was awesome, and it runs cool as a cucumber with it. It has increased water flow so it helps with the running hot at idle issue XJ's have. Granted it's $50 more, but IMO when I swap or fix something I like to not have to think about it again for a long time.

I went with a Gates water pump on my 98 maybe a year and a half ago and have had no issues since then. The part number is 42004. Pretty sure you can get if off of Amazon but the price may have gone up due to the virus going around.
