basickly yesterday at work, i had my jeep at idle for about 15 minutes and then the thing started wisin coolent,so as i was angry all day proceeded to call napa and put a new pump in just need to finish up this morning, but has anyone had a problem with this before?

 

Why were you angry about this? Is this a newer pump that failed? Exactly how old is the failed pump?

Water pumps and anything else mechanical, have a finite lifespan and will eventually fail.

 

Third water pump failure I have read about in a month.

All had HIGH MILEAGE and OLDER YEARS.

I ordered two water pumps for my two XJ's.

My next garage day, they will be swapped out. ( at least the old ones will be pulled and checked - two of the failures were internal where impellars broke or eroded off )

 

I'm not sure what years have the reverse fin in them but I would make sure the replacement pump is exactly like the one in it... I want aware of this one til recently I had ti change mins and irt just so happened to be assembled incorrectly... I ended up taking the stupid thing off about four times... I was embarrassed when I found this out but just trying to make sure everyone else knows this... The key is if the fin has a "R" in the middle of yours then the replacement better
