I'd want to hook up my knife sheath onto my dash but need some ideas on how to do this

This is what I want to do



but what is behind that panel? Don't want to cut into some wires or mess something up.





This is what's behind the sheath. thinking about Doing a little something like this...





Cutting upside down U And just sliding the sheath to hook up to it, but only problem is, I don't know how well the sheath will stay on when I take the knife out.

Any ideas or input will be greatly appreciated!!

Don't got any of that, lookin to do this thing for free. Got superglue, shoestring, screws, basic stuff like that...

 

Use old belt of some kind Idk might be able to cut to slits & thread the belt w case & dash pull tight loop belt behind & clip dash bezle back ...

 

That whole trim panel pops off after just removing some screws at the bottom. Then screw the sheath in.

 

^^ This. use screws from inside the sheath.

 

X2. then you can see whats behind there so you dont damage anything, PLUS you'll be learning another thing about your XJ. simple too. Good luck man, thats a really simple, but cool mod. Interested to see it when its done!

also if you have any large washers that will fit behind the screw heads it will add some support so you dont rip the sheath.

Alright guys! All done. I decided to not use screws or anything cause I thought it wouldn't fit...
Behind the plastic panel, all there was was sheetmetal protecting all the wires and connections, minimal room for much, so this is what I did



I decided to use a belt that I had along with zipties, that's all I needed to strongly secure my sheath.








Once all was done I pulled tight all the zips and made sure everything was clipped and out of te way so that the plastic panel wouldn't bulge out after I reinstalled it




It turned out exactly how I expected it! And now I know exactly where my knife is and it's at arms length reach for quick use

Came out SWEET dude! Nice use of what you already had laying around, thats exactly what i do. I have a pre-'97 so its a bit different, especially interior-wise but i did NOT expect that metal back there!!

 

Thanks man! I always like to rig up unique stuff without a bunch of fancy equipment. I'm sure yours would turn out great, especially since your pre-'97 won't have the metal there. Alot more options on how to mount it!
