Motor oil and trans fluid
I know I could find it through the search but I'm on my phone so bare with me.
I'm pretty much just deciding that 5w-30 royal purple is a no brainer, but what about a filter?
And as far as the tranny goes what are your recs?

Oil filter, Napa Gold or Wix. Some people like the Mopar filter. Stay FAR away from Fram as there has been many reported problems because of the anti-drainback valve in them. As far as tranny fluid, use what was recommended by the factory, Dexron/Mercon III. Don't use ATF +4, even if the guys at Wally-World or Jiffy Lube tell you that it os what goes in them. Lots of people have talked about slippage issues with it.

If you want the most from your fancy oil make sure you aren't blowing much gas into it. Some people think "synthetic oil" = "high OCI" but if your rings are crap you just let too much gas by, which doesn't filter out. WIX 51515 is great if you've got SAE threads (your pic I think is a 97+ with painted fenders?). If your oil isn't full of gasoline try WIX 51515XP. Oversized fancy unit that gets even more crap out, I've foud them for $8 online. Mobil-1 M1-301 runs about $14 in stores here
Don't forget your transfer case! D/M in there too.

The rings on the pistons seal the combustion chambers from the crank case. On the power stroke of course it keeps the firey goodness that makes the Jeep do Jeep things inside (aside from rust). If these are worn and your compression is down you get a lot of blowby. This manifests as oil that dirties fast or a lot of vapor in the CCV system. Also a compression test will be below spec. The other effect is that on the compression stroke, fuel slips right by the pistons into the crank case and dilutes your oil, thinning the oil over time. Can't be filtered out so mandates frequent oil changes. If it's bad enough you should be able to just smell your old oil.

UPDATE: Apparently the 51515XP is "Extended Performance" because it takes twice as long to fill... because it filters twice as less! Ignore what I wrote about it, I'm going to be spinning off my own very very soon.
NAPA Platinum, if even made by WIX, is likely the 57515.

Yes, NAPA platinum = Wix XP. They are a high-capacity filter intended for extended OCIs. Not sure how the filtering ability compares to a NAPA Gold/Wix.

What I thought. Extended oil change intervals.

Well Renix boy there sent me this giant writeup. I found it extremely informative: http://www.ihpartsamerica.com/forums...filters-2.html
How did you know that NAPA Platinum is indeed WIX XP? Based on the above research I would imagine that makes them worthless.

I run Valvoline MaxLife 5w-30 in everything forever. They even have a recycled version that is the same product, but takes less energy to refine since its recycled. Also, Purolator makes damn decent oil filters (in three flavors).
As for tranny fluid I have definitely done plenty of research as I'm gonna do a drain/fill and filter replacement soon. Stick to the Dex/Merc III. It is what they were made for. The ATF 4 thing was Chrysler being greedy and stupid.

Okay so I sent my grandma to pick up some more dex/merc today because I had to work and noticed I was running low after dropping the pan even after adding a whole gallon. She came back with it and ATF4, so even the guys at advanced are gung-ho about this crap. Can anyone lend some scientific reason as to why the dex/merc is better?
