Default MJ 44

Anyone have experience with the MJ specific d44. My buddy has one thats rebuilt with no LSD and 3.55 cogs. But he wants like 300 for it and I thought that was kinda steep. I paid 75 for my last 8.8 and there plenty strong. Is the MJ 44 something special?

ive seen complete stock xj and mj dana44s go from $100-$350.

huge aftermarket and they bolt in. which is a big selling point for people looking to upgrade from a dana35 and want to do the least amount of work possible.

theres a lot of info out there on the 44 vs 8.8 argument.

an 8.8 is only as strong as its weakest link. the tubes twist from the housing, the carriers are weak and known to crack and of course c-clip, which is more of an inconvenience than anything.

of course those downfalls can be taken care of.

Its only a bolt on if you popping into another MJ other wise your going to need to move the spring plates, also its just a normal Dana 44, yes the 8.8 is stronger. What size tires are you running?

I guess I'll come over here too. lol

I run an 8.8 with welded tubes,C-clip eliminator, a full carrier detroit and 4.56 gears on 35s. Never broke a thing.

I just figure a 100 dollar 8.8 with 140 dollar C-clip eliminator and some 25 dollar spring perches welded on is a better deal than a 300 dollar 44 that's bone stock.

I'm not against the 44, I've just never found one that was a better bargain than an 8.8.
