Heres some good data I found on this subject.

COT: Continuous output torque rating MOT: Maximum output torque rating Numbers from January edition of Fourwheeler, page 60.

Dana 35 rear axle COT: 870 MOT: 3480
Dana 44 rear axle COT: 1100 MOT: 4460
Ford 8.8 28spline COT: 1250 OT: 4600
Ford 8.8 31spline COT: 1360 MOT: 5100
Dana60 semifloat COT: 1500 MOT: 5500

depends how the axles were built/equipped.

a 30 spline semifloat 60 shaft is the same as a 30 spline dana44 shaft.

Sorry, diddnt clarify. That was axle shafts only. Removed from axles on a twist style stress machine.

either way. a buncha different size shafts came in 44's and 60's over the years

They diddnt list sizes of shafts or anything.

The D44 only came in Comanche's that came a tow package stock right? From What I hear its a pretty rare to come across a MJ with that.

Im sure they could be ordered special in an MJ of the day. Ive only seen them myself stock in metric ton manches. Not to say they aren't out there. But I settled it last night I picked up a 31 spline 8.8 out of a 2000 exploder. Hundred bucks well spent.
