what he said on craigs:
Suv was brought to my shop for repairs, after we done the repairs (new head and head gasket) to it the customer didn't have the money to pay so she gave me an open title. THIS IS A ONE OWNER JEEP.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4x4 , 4.0 straight inline six cylinder (needs crank kit) with 133,246 miles , automatic transmission , newer tires , inside is black cloth and in great shape , outside of truck is in great shape also

If no one buys the jeep within a week or two I'm gonna put a rebuilt motor in it and then it will be priced $1,500 MORE!!!! It's deal time now!!!

It's a 2000. It has 133K miles. It's not perfect. I guarantee it will need replacements soon on parts. As for the price, I think he's asking a little too much. If you have the money, go for it, otherwise just wait for a better offer. I personally wouldn't bother.

Sounds a little high to me. Like he said, it's going to need a rebuild or replacement engine! If it is in "great" condition inside and out then maybe $3000, at the most! Just my $.02
FYI, I bought my 2000 for $3500 and didn't have to do anything to it, except the lift, bumpers, etc!

Also be sure to run a Carfax report on it to see if it has a lien on it. You don't want to risk the chance of buying property that can be seized from you.

EDIT: Once you run the report, just request a refund from Carfax and you'll get your money back.

He better have the title in hand if you plan on buying it. If there is not a clear title for this Jeep, just walk away. DMV headaches can be a HUGE pain!

People couldn't pay for the work he had ALREADY done to it. So they just hand him the title to a car that books for over 4k and walk away. So he sells it, needing work even after he tried to give it back to the owners but they couldn't pay for it?
I'm not buying it. Best bet on Jeeps is private party. You don't want this headache.

I sure as hell would. Anything it needs thats such a pain in the *** that a mechanic won't install it to instantly raise the value of the Jeep he's selling by thousands isn't a part you want to mess with. There is a thread, near the top of Cherokee Chat, called Buying a Cherokee that people have been leaving lots of great buying advice on. I would check it out.

re build at 133???

um dude 420 was yesterday. my friend rebuilt one for a customer a while back that ran til 500k. mine has 264 on it and runs fine. getting 300 out of the engine is common in these if you havnt noticed.

if he lowers the price then yeah itd be a good deal but the motor is nothing to worry about

just talked it over with him and heres what he said: (note that he is the son of the owner of an automotive shop that has been in buisness for 34 years) the lady who we fixed it for didnt have the 1400 bucks to pay for the repairs, so either she pays or has to hand over the title. or let the state handle it.

so he does have the title, but said he doesnt know about my 2500$ offer, might be to low because he is saying he can drop another 400 into it and sell it for 4k plus.
so what do you guys think i should do?

I'd also like to point out that Craigslist is notorious for scams and selling lemons lately. If you decide to buy this Jeep, do not leave the dealer's lot without a thorough inspection. Drive it for 15 minutes, check for leaks. Listen for engine knocking. Check for engine error codes. Check all the lights. Check the sound. Check to see if any fluids are burnt. Check the 4WD capability. Check the ebrake. Check the air filter for excessive engine blowby. Check for rusted parts underneath the car. Check to see when the fuel filter was last changed. Check everything, even if it takes 3 hours to do so. Once you find problems, then talk him down on the price. Like the guy said above, the engine shouldn't need a rebuild at 133K miles and someone handing over ownership of a Jeep in so-called "perfect" condition because she couldn't afford the cost of mechanical service doesn't add up. Like I said, run a Carfax report on this vehicle to be safe. The VIN # will tell you everything you need to know, even if the Jeep has been stolen or if any liens are in place for seizure. Get that VIN#. Don't even consider meeting the dealer without having it first and conducting record checks.

Most importantly, pretend this guy is lying about everything. Don't trust anything he's saying. Do your own research. When the economy worsens, there is even more of a lack of ethics and much more deception.

8 records? Pay the $35 to see the full report. Get the report and issue a ticket for a refund. Carfax will give your money back. You want that report.
