My current paint job is ****! Needing another.
Who has a MAACO paint job and what are your impressions? Im defiantly not looking for a show paint job, just want it to be shinny and not have to worry about getting scratched while off roading.

My buddy got one on his cadillac, It looks super nice for the price, only issue was a few runs in the paint and also they dont last that long since it is single stage( base color and clear coat mix), it will look good for 2 years tops.
If you pay extra to get the 2 stage ( base color + clear coat) it will look nicer longer i've seen 2 stage from maaco last 5+ years if taken care of

the paint looks nice, but after a year it starts flaking off...they dont do good prep work. They have different grades also, I just know about 10 years ago my buddy got his truck painted and it looked really good, but a little over a year later it started flaking off. I wouldnt use them.

The key is to do your own prep work. Most any monkey can do that. They'll use a quality paint if you're willing to pay a little more for it. To be honest, the average Joe off the street can't buy a good automotive paint for the price that they'll paint it for.

if you want shiny leave it on the street...if you want to take it on trails why pay to have it painted? Unless you are going to put a cage around it I wouldnt waste the money.

if u do the prep work the paint job will come out fine. take it to them at the point that its ready to be sprayed. that means cover everything u dont want paint on. including ur tires.

my buddy just bought a 2000 xj with a macco paint job. Its not bad if you want your coil springs, exhaust, hitch, winshield rubber, tires, and half of your bumper plastics to match.

I have seen Maaco paint jobs with the lock cylinders painted over. As a painter myself, I almost gagged.
I could have done a better job with a corn broom and a bucket of latex.

From all my experiences with them and from hearing testimonials of their customers, it seems your experience is going to depend heavily on your local Maaco. As mentioned before, you'll save yourself a lot of headaches in the long run if you do a lot of the prep work yourself. Remove all the trim, headlights, tail lights, tape off windows, etc...otherwise you'll be disappointed.
The one time I had them do a paint job for me, I made sure to do all the prep work beforehand, and it came out middling to alright. There was a fair amount of orange peel, so you could tell it had been resprayed, but it looked nice enough to sell the car.
Your mileage may vary.
