A locker physically locks axles to completely prevent slippage. An LSD only limits the slip, generally using a clutch mechanism. The Auburn unit uses conical clutches which bind against the differential case to limit slippage.

Mike, I had one in a D35 on the wife's XJ and it was worn out. I checked with a friend of mine in the business and he said they couldn't be rebuilt due to non available parts for it. I would suggest the Detroit True Track instead. They don't wear out and have more friction available, but not lock up.

The only one I ever liked was the Dana Power Lock. But I don't think they make them any more. But you might find a used one for your D44. They are rebuildable, quite strong with 4 spider gears and you can vary the friction by the number of beveled clutches you use. Don't get the Trac Lock
