Default Looking for XJ under $1000.. Where to start?

I really want to find an XJ under 1K for a fixer-upper to work on before I get my license and a much better shape vehicle. Problem is, I don't really know where to start. I'm currently searching on places like AutoTrader and Cars.com, but haven't really found anything. Where should I be looking?

My criteria is:

'91 - '01 ( '01 won't happen but just throwing it in there)
Running 4.0L
I desire a stick, but will deal with an auto.
Not in horrible shape, but needs some TLC

That's it. Would love a little help and advice guys! Thanks!

Chris.

Only problem with Craiglist is that I can't narrow it down and kick out the Grand's from my search. At least 75% are Grand Cherokees. But that's where I'm looking now.

I would go scope out that 92 2 door. If I was in Ohio I would. Looks like it has potential and brakes are a good thing to start learning with.

How can I figure out the problem with the brakes, and learn how to fix it? Books? Internet tutorials?

I'm with DCM, make friends with the auto shop kids. We're all pretty chill guys.

I'd avoid the one that's been in the accident, it probably needs a lot more than what the guy says. Brakes are pretty simple, you could probably find a how-to on this forum.

Also, to make the searching easier and to weed out the grand's, simply type into the search bar "cherokee, -grand". it works.

I'm 15. Yeah, I probably do know someone who can help me, but I do not have an auto class at my school. If I did, I'd been in it!

Dont count that out..... I bought my stock 01 for $500.

Found it with the rear hatch glass broken out and 2 bald flat tires but it was a one owner, never wrecked, ran and drove and everything worked on it. Saw it sitting in someones back yard for a cpl of months and stopped to ask about it. Price started at $1200, I had $500 cash in my pocket and offered it and they took it.

Best advice I can give ya is be patient, have cash ready if a deal pops up, and always offer lower than what they are asking for it.

Yes, you can actually. Search for Cherokee, then a space, then -grand. It will remove all of the grand cherokees. Works pretty much anywhere, and has helped me out a TON. Especially seraching e-bay for just Cherokee stuff, and all the GC stuff comes up too.

Nevermind, just realized this was already been posted.
