Looking for XJ under $1000.. Where to start?
I really want to find an XJ under 1K for a fixer-upper to work on before I get my license and a much better shape vehicle. Problem is, I don't really know where to start. I'm currently searching on places like AutoTrader and Cars.com, but haven't really found anything. Where should I be looking?
My criteria is:
'91 - '01 ( '01 won't happen but just throwing it in there)
Running 4.0L
I desire a stick, but will deal with an auto.
Not in horrible shape, but needs some TLC
That's it. Would love a little help and advice guys! Thanks!
Chris.

Only problem with Craiglist is that I can't narrow it down and kick out the Grand's from my search. At least 75% are Grand Cherokees. But that's where I'm looking now.
Just found a nice two-door 5-Speed! What do you think?:

I think I'm going to e-mail him. How difficult is brake work?

How old are you? brakes are basicaly all easy, im sure you have a friend who can do them, if not, go to your schools auto shop and make friends, the guys in there will deffintly help you, i dont know about your school but my school loves trucks and jeeps and we have alot of nice ones.
I'm with DCM, make friends with the auto shop kids. We're all pretty chill guys.
I'd avoid the one that's been in the accident, it probably needs a lot more than what the guy says. Brakes are pretty simple, you could probably find a how-to on this forum.
Also, to make the searching easier and to weed out the grand's, simply type into the search bar "cherokee, -grand". it works.

back when i was looking on craigslist for a jeep, i couldn't find a thing under 1500 that was in good condition most needed massive repair work, i live in ohio also. I eventually ended up going with my ZJ and i love it only thing I want to do is swap the t-case full time 4x4 with the 4.0 makes it slow( well thats all i want to do besides the lift and other fun stuff)
Dont count that out..... I bought my stock 01 for $500.
Found it with the rear hatch glass broken out and 2 bald flat tires but it was a one owner, never wrecked, ran and drove and everything worked on it. Saw it sitting in someones back yard for a cpl of months and stopped to ask about it. Price started at $1200, I had $500 cash in my pocket and offered it and they took it.
Best advice I can give ya is be patient, have cash ready if a deal pops up, and always offer lower than what they are asking for it.
