I am a bit of an audiophile though. You don't need subs unless you want "thump". Basically what you have is 3 types of speakers and they do 3 different things. Subs=thump
6x9's=volume
5-6"round=clarity
The component option on the 5-6 round gives super clarity with the mini tweeter. Not necessary but really really nice.

If I'm going to spend the money I will always go with JBL for speakers. Excellent sound/build quality. Long standing company.
Pioneer and Alpine have been in the head-unit game for awhile, and have a good range of quality/price within their models.
Stay away from PYLE. Only ever see bad reviews of their products.
As for subs, there's not much room for them if you want your Jeep to retain the "utility" part of SUV. But there are ways to sneak them in there. I had a couple Bazooka tubes laying around, so I rigged a little something up where the spare goes.

Old thread, but I didnt want to clutter the forum with multiple copies of the same question..
I'm looking to replace the 2 door speakers and the 2 rear roof speakers in my 01 XJ and I'm not sure which would sound better for the money, the Alpine SPR-50 speakers or the Kenwood Excelon KFC-X133 speakers.
I do not want a sub in the back and will probably get a new head unit but on a budget so will run the stock Inifinity Cd/tape/radio head unit for now. I have the factory amp, but the alarm/stereo shop guy suggested bypassing it and looping the inputs/outputs and letting whatever new head unit I get drive the speakers.
If anyone has any experience on the Kenwood's and Alpine's I listed, I would like to hear from you.
Front speakers dont work at the moment (blown and wire in rubber boots broken) and I just want some sound, not to wake neighbors, just decent sounding audio.
Thanks!

I was surprised to find that the Kenwood speakers bracket ears were not wide enough to use the factory screw holes in the door, so I drilled 4 new holes and used the included metal clips and sheetmetal screws to secure the speakers in place. I also took the time to fix the broken speaker cables in the rubber boot going from the door to the body on both doors, and removed the door lock and window switches and resoldered all connections on their pcboards so all buttons would work. Having no functioning front speakers in my doors since I got this Jeep, I have to say I am impressed with the sound quality from these Kenwoods! Good bass, and did not get distorted at high volume. It's also nice to have door lock and window buttons all working now. =)
Have a good one,
Squelchtone
