Looking at a Cherokee for a Daily Driver!
Got some pictures of the 2001 Limited - man is it clean.
143,XXX miles, 2 owners, and the guy I'm talking to has had it since 2010. He says he has all the maintainence records for the Jeep. It has tinted windows, remote start, new nitrogen shocks, and HID's installed (which he will be removing). Never lifted, never taken offroad, or so he claims. He is asking $6850, but is willing to negotiate. I'm liking $6,000 or less for this one, due to the mileage, but if it is as clean as the pictures suggest, it might be worth it.
Let me know what y'all think. I'll be seeing it in person on Thursday or Friday, so I'll have a chance to poke around underneath and make sure everything is rust free. Of course, it will go off to a mechanic for a good inspection before I make any offers.

Underside picture I will take today when I see it.

6k is way to much for that Jeep. I say $4500 tops. Plus the rear end is starting to sag like everyother cherokee. Over all its a nice jeep, but people these days think their Cherokees are worth much more than they are. After all its still a 12 year old vehicle with 100k+ miles.

Weird, I didn't know they made limiteds without leather seats.
Which, by the way, is the only incentive to buy a limited IMO.
Cherokees are insanely expensive where you are! Keep looking.

He DID say negotiable, so I think I will try and agree on a rough price margin (if we can) before it gets inspected, so we aren't wasting anymore time than we have to.

Hmm fair enough. The only issue there is how do you try and convince someone that they are asking way too much money for the car? I don't want to kick the guy too hard, he seems like an honest man and this Jeep has been quite well cared for and babied.

You can only approach it by telling him what other Cherokees are going for and how much you are willing to pay. If he says no its up to you if you want to pay or not, but just remember they made close to 3 million cherokees between 84-01 so there are plenty more of them out there.
Despite the sheer number of the things, it's kinda hard to find clean Cherokees for fair money I'm seeing lol, I guess patience is something I'm going to have to learn. I know it's the same with my old BMW...people think "BMW" and "rare 6 series" and want something like 4k for a rusted out s***box when I bought mine for $1900 rust free and running great.

You're doing a good thing by coming here on the forums and asking for advice first before committing to an XJ. I wish I had done that. I was ignorant and wanted a Cherokee so bad and just had to have the first one I found at 5k.
"it's just a little bit of rust, won't be hard to fix"....and I got this.

Needless to say my hindsight is 20/20 on this one. But, luckily I'm a stubborn bastard and am now getting into welding so that I can fix all this. A big learning experience for sure, so that's the only positive way I have to look at it.
Good luck! And remember, while someone with a 2001 may say they are not affected by the 0331 head issue, it's probably because they've properly maintained their cooling system. All it takes is one little mishap and that sucker can crack.

Thanks all for the advice.....we'll see how this meeting today goes! I'll either be in the beginnings of owning a Jeep or back searching on CL lol.
