I'm considering getting myself back into another XJ, 4wd this time. This one popped up on CL. Looks pretty clean from the ad. What do you folks think?

it looks like its just a trim level. Upgraded wood grain trim, soft touch door pannels, etc.

See if they will let you take it to a shop, and call Knuckle busters in mesa, see if they are free to do a once over on it. Its often worth the 75 bucks they might charge to do that. Its not a bad price, but not great if it needs some work.

Well, unfortunately it was a bust. Most everything up top looked good, but one rear quarter had a hand sized rust hole in it and everything underneath was rotting away. One hole down under there was big enough for me to put 3 fingers into.

I saw that, shook his hand, said thank you and walked away.

Sorry man, but it was a wise choice to walk away from that one.

Don't gloss over the older/cheaper ones. Mine cost me $500 bucks, and needed about 1300 in repairs, but its running good now. has a small oil leak and needs an exhaust.... but other than that its in really good shape. no rust anywhere on it.
