Thumbs up Long Arms...

So this next spring is my last semester in college, this means senior project time. I'm a Drafting/CAD major so it will be designed on the CAD programs. I was thinking what i wanted to do for my project and i was thinking a custom long arm suspension. I already have a good idea on what i want to do i just need to know some details. I want to design a low COG 3in long arm, i understand the basic concept behind the design...kind of. What are details that I need to focus on? Im looking for anyway that you guys would improve a kit, from personal experience, or just some hair brain ideas. looking for any ideas that are serious. thanks ya'll

If you are actually going to make and mount them on 3" lift there will be clearance issues on any uptravel thats why really low cog guys do mid arms so there isnt as many problems

I want you to design a triangulated 4 link for the front of a Jeep Cherokee.

"Mid arm" is in-between a short arm and a long arm
Before you tackle this project you should do a ton of research because there is a lot to learn about all of these different systems

I am currently researching it, but for the project i have to get opinions on what people would want, the whole point of this project is to "improve" on a product or concept. My professor wants others opinions so he can see that it is more than just me that would be interested in it.

Pretty much all xjs that get offroaded are wanting and/ or have long arms. If i were you id aim to design a kit based off of all the good attributes of popular kits on the market today

That part of being a drafter... Engineering.

I'd start by drawing a 1:1 scale of a Jeep Cherokee with special emphasis on the undercarriage and engine placement.

Adjustability for proper caster angle, making sure the wheel comes up centered in the wheel well, and clearance are the main issues. If possible I would try to make a true 3 link setup, but a radius arm may be alot easier.

just search 3 link vs 4 link there are a bunch of threads out there and what people think about them. plus there are radius arms too. each person wants something different, this is like asking what tires should i get or what locker should i buy. a person has a control arm set up that fits their style of wheeling.
