i have detroits front and back , but i was running an aussie locker in the front , aussie is a good price and work very well , when you buy your locker they ask what rears , gears and spline of your axel

in the front dana 30 theres a breaking point if your taller or smaller then 3:73 gears where the carrier is differant , if you have a 8.25 in the rear you wont need a carrier to run taller gears , but if you get an aussie locker that wont matter because they can go into the stock style carrier if you needed to get a new one for new gears , but if you buy detroits you mine as well gear it now while its all apart , because a detroit in a whole new carrier while a aussie just replaces your stock spider gears

D30 front. Probably an 8.25 rear but its possible it could be a D35.

D35 has a threaded fill plug (like a bolt) 8.25 has a rubber one

The fill plug gives it away on the 35/8.25. Also they both have oval covers with 10 bolts holding them on.

The 8.25 is better because its non c-clip and both shafts are the same length (only have to carry one spare) but on the pre 96 its not that much better because it has 27 spline shafts (same as the 35) whereas the 97+ have 29 spline shafts. An easy, cheap, bolt-in upgrade for your jeep would be a late model 8.25

I'd lock the front first until you have the money to just throw an 8.8 under there. Ive demolished 2 8.25's and a D35 as well

As in spare shafts. If you wheel it hard enough, theyll break. In those axles, the shafts are the weak link so theyll most likely break first. I had chromo shafts in my 35 and broke the carrier, shooting chunks of metal through the diff cover. Youll be fine depending on your tire size and how much you like the skinny pedal.

Lock the front first
