Default Lockers

If I'm going down a trail and have to put my jeep in 4x4 and Lock the lockers, when I'm done with that section and I want to put jeep back into 2 wheel drive do I have to unlock the front hubs first and can I leave them connected knowing I'm going to use 4x4 again? I know it's probably a noob question but I'd like to know before I go out and break something. Thanks

Yes you can, the hubs will then spin the front drive train like a non locking hub jeep

Go out and look at your jeep, do you have locking hubs?

and even if you did, you can leave them locked all the time if you wanted. stock xj front axles don't have locking hubs, they are always locked.
