Hello folks, CherokeeHoonigan here again with a little story over my weekend. It was Saturday night and i was on the way to a work Christmas party with a couple co workers in my jeep with me. We were crossing an intersection in town when i noticed headlights on my right side heading towards me at a rather quick rate i noticed he ran the stop sign so i hit the gas to try and avoid a collision, luckily he only hit the rear quarter spinning me around. I then pulled over to the side of the road to wait for him so we could call our insurance and contact law enforcement. but when i pulled over i noticed he began to run. So instinctively i chased him down and called 911. I chased him for around 30 minutes giving the police my location every block finally we got him blocked off and pulled over. i got his information and gave a report and was let on my way about an hour later with a smashed quarter panel and no rear bumper or exhaust. The next day i tried to contact the insurance company he gave me but when i called they said he was not insured under them. So now i have to take legal action to get my damages paid for but the catch is i was supposed to have this jeep sold next week so i could focus on my other XJ build. Its been a heck of a year.

 

That sucks. That's why I keep full coverage on all my rides. Even the junky ones.

 

Hit and run? And he's not in jail? Dunno bout where you live, but that's a felony here...and giving false information is just a douchebag move. Did you get his address? Because I'd have that a-hole arrested...you have witnesses, and a 911 call log. Go after him guns blazing.

 

Contact police agency that responded and advise them he had no insurance, most states will pull his DL and plates off of car until he pays for the damage and gets insurance.

Wow, things don't work like that at all up here in Canuckistan... I can't believe the onus is on you personally to sort things out with his insurance company (which we find out he may or may not even have). Tough luck man, I hope you get things sorted out and that the XJ doesn't get written off!

 

Already contacted law enforcement. Something is really fishy with the guy, New ford pickup, out of state texas plates, Bad part of town and no insurance. I hope he gets as much time behind bars as i can achieve and i get the $ this total punk owes me.

 

So are you in the clear for your "hot pursuit"? I'm envisioning like a full blown chase haha.

 

Good luck to you but I'll bet the dude (with more than likely 12 different aliases) is long gone.

 

Yeah i knew there had to be a reason he pulled a hit and run.Besides no insurance he probably gave a fake name and has a warrant or two i bet.Do you have a license plate number off that truck ?Have a cop friend run the plate see if the name of the owner is the same as he gave you or not.

 

Had the police knock down his door and arrest him yesterday. He is awaiting trial and i have to take him to small claims. yes they cleared me for the chase although the 911 operator didn't like the fact i was chasing him and told her if he tried anything i was going to defend myself until cops arrived. Should be interesting to see how all this turns out.

 

I hate that. every time I list a car for sale, something happens to it. My current one, listed for sale and the window falls into the door (broken track) last one, somebody in a parking lot ripped off the rear bumper while I was inside, didn't leave a note (good reason to carry un insured/under insured coverage.) My next car I list for sale, I'm going to leave parked in my driveway until it sells.

Well for one his attorney is going to argue that his client was afraid of you because of how you were acting chasing him around. and thats why he took off. They will get the 911 tapes too prove his case.. He is not really going to get anything but a big old fine, depending on his past driving record.

Glad your ok..but dont expect much but a bunch of money tossed around on the other guys end.

 

He is paying for my damage and time, If the guy would have pulled over in the first place i wouldnt have pressed charges. He was already charged with hit and run and no insurance plus whatever else he is wanted for. Im looking for 1,500 minimum
