Well how bad is the rust and where is it located? I might be dealing with some floorboard repairs, I'm shooting for entire replacements and I'm not scared! LOL But if your not going to be using at as a off road only vehicle and want it to be more of DD/Overland then perhaps rusty Jeep in bad places is not something up your alley.

Like I said depends on your use for it and with mine I will be playing more than worried about looks.

Well that rust on the back near window doesnt appear to be rot so I would think you could remove that rear window and sand that rust down prep it and paint it black. The rockers I wouldn't worry about that as long as the floors are solid you can remove all that material and either find someone to build you some rocker sliders or order ones but they are expensive.

That lower quarter panel hole might be easy patch panel fix too. If that is all the rust you have on it and the rest is solid that is not that bad.

Of course all this and it will depend on your skills, money you want to put into it, if you have to pay someone to do the work what the cost will be and if you think it is worth it, etc.

Those lower rockers rusted are normal for places that have salt on roads or lots of moisture. There is a write up on here where a XJ owner cut those out and welded on his own steel to make up for the rockers. You can also replace those entire rockers with panels but not sure on the cost or again your skill level.

One last thing, I'm starting to wonder though with that rear lower quarter panel you can see where they put down some rhinoline or bedliner and I wonder if they cleaned up the rust under it or not and that is why the rust spread around it. Who knows I guess rust is going to come over time unless you live in dry climate areas like California and not near the ocean.

Yeah I’m really concerned with rocker rust as long as it’s just the rockers I’ll just cut it out and go without them for a while.

I noticed that Berliner too but I’ve already asked him a million questions so that will have to be addressed when I see it in person

I would do all the repairs myself. I have a welder and whatnot. It doesn’t have to be flawlesss I just don’t want rust spreading to other areas

What exactly does it have that you would already do anyway? Lift, bumpers, tires, etc?

I’m still looking (if anyone is actually wondering lol) I’m actually supposed to look at an ‘87 tomorrow. It’d definitely be more of a project then the others I’ve looked at but it’s listed cheap and has 155k.

I’ve become a little more open to taking on one that isn’t as complete as what I’ve been looking for

Haha nope I won’t be giving up. Actually just setup another viewing tomorrow for a 2001 that looks super clean from the pictures. Now my question is where’s the best place to buy a head if I decide to get it? I’ll replace it even if there aren’t signs the stock one has cracked yet

Yeah it’s definitely not easy. But unfortunately I don’t know if I have much time to keep looking because the heat just went out in my car and I don’t intend on fixing it and as you know winter is arriving lol
