That's pretty cool never thought about having people along the way for backup. I would go probably 6-8 hours. I've seen some listed in the Omaha area that aren't too bad

Guess I could give that a shot. Never thought I'd spend so much time looking for a vehicle without rust haha

Start looking in CA. Lots of rust free ones out here. Its just that you will be paying a premium for it. Like good luck finding a halfway decent 4wd for under 3k. All the ones under 3k are either beat to death or have multiple issues. A few examples for you.

Thats a helluva haul from here but I see what you mean with the California rigs. I'm really regretting not deciding on an xj before leaving GA.

Don't buy an XJ in California. All I have to say on the matter. People out here are out of their ever loving minds.

I just had a genius thought (I think) I'm traveling with the wife and kids to GA in two months and we're driving so if I can lineup an xj somewhere along my route back I can grab it. I was thinking around St. Louis because that leaves me with a 8-9 hour drive but there's some good ones out there from what I've seen.

Found a ‘96 cheap with this description..

.”4wd 4.0 high liter output with tow pkg., power wdws. & door locks. Daily driver untill 2 weeks ago when noise started in engine at idle(bearings?) runs great but needed muffler and cat. converter. New: battery, alternator, engine radiator and trans. radiator, gas tank & and gas pump.”

Says it’s only at idle and there’s no noise when driving and it drives fine
Any ideas?

Impossible to say with out being able to check it out. May or may not be the engine. Could be something as simple as a failing component driven by the serpentine belt. What's the body suppose to be like?

Your up coming trip sounds like a GOOD chance to find a decent one.

Says in the add it needed a cat when running, can’t they make a similar noise?

Here’s some pics

Your learning. The converter can rattle from loose heat shields or from failing inside. Certainly wouldn't be hard to tell if the noise was from it or in the engine bay though. They your pics? If so have you been able see how bad the rust in the pics are?

Not my pics. Supposed to go look at it tomorrow. From zooming in and scanning the pics doesn’t appear to be any gapping rust holes. I’m intrigued to find out where the noise is coming from because it may be a good buy if it’s not major. 170k on the clock and listed for $700

Thought about recording the noise and posting it here if I can’t figure it out myself.
