Default Light bars for 98 xj

What length would you suggest for a roof mount? Curved or not?

There is no real straight answer to this,But to me i would look around at all the light bar mounts which you can get 40 inch to 50.Then figure out a budget on the light and do not buy those ebay cheapo ones they suck.

Welcome to the forum!

When considering a roof mount for a light bar the type of wheeling you do depends if you do one or just lights. I'm in the forest a lot on overgrown trails with tree limbs low hanging and have torn off several of my lights. I run Hellas and the cost per pair is only a $150 a set and not $500+ for a good light bar. I run 2 set on the roof both front and rear facing and 2 sets on my front winch bumper.

Just a consideration for you and where you wheel.

So, it depends on what bracket system and what light bars you like the best.

If you get a Rough Country-style light bar bracket system, then you need a curved light bar.

If you get a Farmer Johnson light bar bracket system, then you need a straight light bar.

If you get the Inspired Engineering-style bracket system (my personal favorite) you can run either a straight or a curved light bar. Same with the Hooligan Offroad-style bracket system, although I really hated those.

I gotta say, those JCRs suck. The light bar has no security in them because it just drops in from the top. If someone really wanted your light bar, they just need to lift up on it and snip a wire and it's theirs. Easiest way to make $100 I've ever heard of.

I am running Inspired Engineering's brackets. They use welded-on nuts, security bolts, and CLOSED mounting holes. At least with mine, someone's gonna have to fight with them to steal it. So if you want security, I would recommend Inspired Engineering.

With Hooligan Offroad, the nuts are not welded to the brackets, so even if you get the security bolts from them, all someone has to do is put a wrench on the nut on the back and they can take your brackets off.

I've never tried the Farmer Johnson ones, but what I like about them is that you appear to be able to use the cast aluminum mounts that already come with your light bar, and those include locks at the mount, which means you're almost guaranteed that your light bar will never wobble up or down. I just never really liked the appearance of them, but lots of people like them.

IMO the best looking setup is a 50'' curved bar with the RC mounts.
