Default lifting help

I like researching/getting ideas before doing something for the first time. I joined a couple of the jeep forums a while back when I bought an older Cherokee. . Which was short lived due to a converter fire. I recently bought a 96 Cherokee sport 4x4, automatic with the power windows and such. I want to do a lift, nothing extreme. ..just enough to change the stance/appearance and not requiring modifying the pinion angle or dropping the transfer case ect. I've looked online and found boocoos of vendors and kits and it's overwhelming to a first timer. .....so I'm asking the experts. ......what do I need to accomplish my goal? I won't be mudding or rock crawling just plan on some beach and mountain trips and using 275/35/15 tires for now. Any and all info appreciated

I imagine you mean 235 / 75 / 15 tires.

Anyway, you could do a new pack of HD / tow package leaf springs from Quadratec or similar vendor. They will typically give you a slight boost over stock OE springs, new shocks and replace your front coils as well. Typically the suspension settles over 15 years, so you'll get an inch or so out of it to begin with and it'll ride nicer.

A 235/75R15 should fit with no mods needed.

Ive never been tire size savvy. .....basically I want to go to a 30 or 31 inch tire and a 2 or 3 inch lift that dont require a lot of other mods.....basically a bolt on kit (with great instructions)

A 235/75/15 is basically a 29" tire. Will fit stock suspension but looks great with a 2" boost. Most 2 inch boost you just drop in some spacers or new springs in the front a new leaf pack and AAL in the back and your good. 2" boosts will also allow for 30s. Any bigger and your going to have to start lifting more unless you want to trim fenders. Also at around 3" of lift you start to get into drive line vibrations and lengthening brake lines and possibly sway bar links and a few other possibilities depending on how your jeep reacts to the changes. Don't forget about shocks too. A great kit is the OME 2" boost. Little pricey but better quality than you'll get from anywhere else.

Great info....THANKS! If i'm understanding correctly....I should be ok and achieve my goal of a basic lift to gain a little clearance, taller stance without major mods with a good 2 inch lift kit and some 30 or 31 inch tires. I picked up some used rims last night that should look good...

Bigger tires = axle upgrades...you can get away with 33's on stock axles, but 35's you'll wanna upgrade. Avoid RC. Don't know why you keep pushing them when you yourself stated it rides like crap....RC is cheap for a reason

Alot of the reason they ride like crap is my F'd up shackle angle and there crap shocks. Nothing from there actual lift components are causeing my bad ride. And I say they ride like crap, compared to my work trucks yeah, but thats only on road, I can do 60 offroad happily, try that in my work truck and youll be pissed. Its better than the shot shocks and springs i had in before, I keep recommending them because the kit has performed amazingly. The OP wants something for looks, why recommend a 1k+ kit when It wont be used. And besides there shocks, I would buy RC again.

RC springs are too short. Well known issue. That's one reason your shackle angle sucks and the ride is awful. The leafs ARE the actual lift item. Like you stated, the shocks are crap. I recommend piecing together a kit with decent leafs and shocks. OP, you'll be much happier you did. Deuce coppers.

Haha no my shackle angle isnt caused by there leafs as I run add a leafs, theyre off because I dont have shackle relocation brackets. And moat hydro shocks or whatever they are dont give great rides but perform off road

If you wanna run 235 tires, I'd piece together a nice 2 inch lift.

OME 2inch medium duty leaf pack
BDS HD 2inch front coils
5100 Bilsteins shocks

You'll probably need a TC drop or SYE. All jeeps are different when it comes to lifts.

That's the same problem. Add-A-Leaf lifts are garbage and always result in a bad shackle angle... hence it's crap. I have most of an RC 3" AAL kit and it works like shat. I need to fix my shackle angle and replace all the shocks.

The coils are okay.
