Wasn't picking on you my friend. Your punctuation and grammer left a bit to be desired. I honestly didn't understand what you were saying. Yes, that was much better thanks.
I am blessed with decent common sense and I'm not gonna be ripped off by many people. I was correct in saying the right oil frees up HP but I was incorrect in how much it was. I stand corrected. But 8-10 HP is fairly substantial don't ya think? I'd pay $15 extra for 10 ponies every 6,000 miles. The test I watched there was a 10 HP difference between Mobil one synthetic and royal purple.
I know for a fact 6.0 psd will run 20-30 HP higher with a 0w oil over 15w conventional rotella oil. I know that's in a diesel and not applicable in this situation but oil can be and is very key in many engines an running a good one will pay for itself in the long run.

I agree with you OOdynamite!!
I'm about to change my oil, oil filter and air filter. My '98 XJ 4.0 has 168,000 miles on it. I'm thinking of using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic, was going to use Fram filters but I think I'll give the Napa filters a shot.

Seriously guys look into amsoil. If you go with the 0w30 that's gaurenteed 15000 under the most severe conditions as in your xj has a 4000 pound trailer behind it 90% of the time and your driving through rush hour in chicago and 25000 for moderate condtions , occasianal towingsome trail use and for 35000 for fleet use. Or one year which ever comes first. This is with an amsoil filter too. There are so many reasons I recomend this to everyone here I can't put it all on. There are very few companies who will even test there oil against it because its that good. And there label sais #1 in synthetics and first in synthetics. They can't just put that on there either they had to apply for a patent and it was sent out to every single major oil producer in the world and no one could dispute it. I was skeptical at first and I spent 6 months researching it for my dodge ram 2 years ago and I became a believer.

The NAPA filter is made by WIX. I try to change my oil at 6000miles, but it goes to about 10,000 sometimes before I get a chance to do it.

so im doing my oil this weekend.
im thinking one of these oils:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...ier=794466_0_0_
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...questid=697598
and this filter:

I dont really mind spending an extra 5 bucks on a filter if it really will work better.
also, this is my first oil change (in general and on the jeep)
is there any additive i should add to get rid of any sludge/other buildups that previous owners may have caused?
