I am so proud of my Cherokee. It has 300000 miles on it's 89 unibody. I was nervous but it passed with flying colors. Go jeep!

California is a stickler for vehicle emissions. I think we have some of the strictest smog tests. Luckily mine had absolutely no problems passing. Of course, mine is a '99 with only 99,000 miles.

LOL! I dont have to worry bout those kinds of tests here.

And if you still got your Renix engine in it....Youre actually exempt from emissions laws.
Says so in the manual.

Its 95 and older....96 is when they went to OBDII.
But yeah, same here...although its a big penalty here, if they find you with no cat on your vehicle....but there are still ways around this

Default They tested everything

I had done Alot of work to it so I thought it would pass but when they told me they had to check the evap system I freaked out. I hadn't done anything to that part of the car but it still passed thank God. I couldn't believe it cost $80 bucks to smog it. Oh well atleast my Cherokee is good for 2 years.

Not every vehicle switched in 96.. hence the reason 96 is still exempt in IL. But XJ man..your right the OBD-II compliance is the reason for the exemption. They don't do the dyno test anymore just the plug in test.
Or you can get smart and get the heck out of Chicago or East St. Louis...
We don't do any testing out in western IL
