Check your local laws before doing this. I'm 99% sure it is ILLEGAL everywhere.

In my area they claim edible meat for soup kitchens and the like. I'm not sure if it's necessarily "illegal" but if my misfortune can help a larger group, I'd gladly donate the meat.

On the other hand, I'd have to ask for at least a back strap

Really? I would think they would want you to use the meat instead of letting it go to waste. But then again birds and cyotes would get to it so i guess its not technically "going to waste". Just isnt going to us! Haha

Keeps poachers from just cruising around hitting all kinds of deer without tags.

Once again, someone spreading misinformation... Isnt the internet a wonderful place?

Around here if you hit a deer you call the cops, they can tell you to put it down, or if you are unarmed but the deer isnt going anywhere they will come put it down.
If you want the meat, they give you a permit and away you go...

I was pretty sure it was legal in MI too. Although most of the deer Ive seen hit in MI are exploded from Canadian semis.

But yeah, in WI its a fairly common practice.

Lol if you hit a deer around here (which is common as hell, i know where 3 dead ones are right now) You just do whatever. You dont call the police, only person you call is the insurance company if you've got full coverage. If you hit it and its mortally wounded, you kill it. Deer meat is so abundant here no one will hardly take nasty bruised meat off the road. I had three deer run out in front of me in the middle of town.. if that tells you anything.
