Has anyone put a 10ft boat on top on an XJ?
I had mine inside with half sticking out, its okay but I want to be able to close the door.
Besides a trailer is there another way?

If you've got the roof rails and cross-braces, you can put it up there and just secure it down at the front and rear of the Jeep down near the fenders. That's what I do with my canoe. I added some tie-down rings to the front bumper so I could tie down there, and I have my hitch in the back. My canoe is a 12-footer, so your boat should fit so long as it's not wider than the Cherokee.
i turn mine upside down bow forward...... open rear doors and run ratchet strap over boat thru cab, cinch down. One strap from front of boat to front bumper and one from rear handles on boat to rear bumper.
Ugly, but it isnt going anywhere that way.

they way we tied ours down was ran 2 ratchet straps off of the front to the outter edges of the front bumper(near the mounting points) and hooked them on the under side lip. then did the same thing on the rear. Then we took a ratchet strap and looped them around each edge of the cross rails on the roof then up and over the boat and then did it to the other side so you have 2 off of the front then 2 around the main body so it cant twist side to side nor can it slide off.looks pretty too =]

Nice Jeep boat tomcarey88! Haha. I load my canoe and kayaks on the factory rack all the time. It's getting a bit worn out though, I need some Thule or Yakima load bars up there. I run it like this:

I just got a couple of pool noodles and sliced them lengthways and cut them to fit the bars. Then I use two ratchet straps to secure the canoe. I often run a line front and rear, although the ratche straps are so tight that it's not needed, that suckers not going anywhere. I also load my friends 10' Smokercraft jonboat the same way, except we load it right side up.
That's a 14' canoe BTW.
