Well, it's built on the same Mitsubishi Car Platform (DC/MSG) as the Compass, caliber, and Mitsubishi GLS, but that said:

I wouldn't attempt it, personally.

Ours does ok i wouldn't really offroad it though if your lookin to tow a small camper or camp where it's not to difficult to get to they are good they are great in the winter and great roadtrip vehicles but thats about it the plan with ours is 20" wheels it's essentialy a square car but they are nice i love ours.

I had one before my Cherokee. It was a 2008 North Edition (Canada only) 4x4, 5-speed. I had zero problems in snow. I never had to shovel, just put it in 4 wheel lock (sometimes) and go. I went to play in some mud and wet sand, but nothing extreme. Only time I got stuck is when I tried to do my own tracks in very deep snow in an empty field. I almost made it, but I ended up with my 4 wheels in the air. Last time I checked, you could only get a 2.25 inch lift for like 7-800$.
All in all, not a bad Jeep if you don't wanna do any rock crawling or anything extreme. But, I love the Cherokee more than the Patriot, even with the bad MPG, lol.
