I looked around for a little while and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so i figured i would start my own thread. Im ripping apart my interior to patch up some BAD rust on my floors and was contemplating if I should put carpet back in the jeep or Herculiner or some bed lining type of product. If anyone has any ideas and pictures would be AWESOME. Also looking to see if anyone did anything interesting with the trim pieces. Thanks

 

When I had my TJ,I pulled the carpet out and used the rattle can bedliner from Wally World. Turned out pretty nice,I thought. Real easy to do too.

 

I always prefer the carpet because I keep the inside of my Jeep dry, but if you like mud and water, then one good alternative is rhino liner. My buddy just rhino-lined the entire floor of his Jeep and never put the carpet back in. Here's how it turned out:



EDIT: However, some people like putting the carpet on top of the rhino liner because it reduces heat from under the vehicle (it insulates) and it allows you to hide all the wires you might have (like my buddy's case).

 

If you like riding in a hot (in summer) or cold (in winter) extremely noisy empty tin can. Leave it out. And you will not like the sound of the stereo either. So stock up on earplugs and have at it.

 

You can always throw some sound deadener over it and put the carpet back down.

It's not that noisy anyway. I'm on 32 M/Ts with bare floors and it's fairly loud, but it's a Jeep, big deal.

 

That's what I did. It also comes in spray cans now.

 

Monstaliner has a roll on kit well worth the money and they offer a discount for JF members. Theirs also comes in like 30 different colors.

 

My dad's YJ is rhino lined with a hardtop and road noise is insane lol sometimes I cant even hear the music on full blast. I wouldnt rhino an xj unless it was a dedicated 100% trail/hunting rig.

 

I wonder how sound proof and protected it would be if you rhino lined the inside and put the original carpet and padding (if any) back over it or if it would be a waste of time..

 

Probably doesn't hurt that I'm half deaf and have a full sound system in my XJ. or that my doors are off half the time.
I also only drive on the highway like twice a year, but I imagine it would be worse at 65+

If you're going to do that just get real sound deadener, but even carpet will make a significant difference.

 

so i have a buddy willing to help me to patch up my jeeps floor and he thought of an idea. He knows a guy at a junkyard that has a Grand Cherokee around the same year as mine (1993) and thought about cutting the floor out of that jeep and using that floor to patch up my rust. Do you guys know if this would work? Would the GC floor match up with mine?

 

Patch the holes, Rhino line it, and reinstall the org. carpeting. If it isn't too bad off.

 

the carpeting is garbage, theres holes, stains and other crap all over it theres no way i would put that carpet back in the jeep. You must have a real big problem with jeeps without carpets huh? haha

 

ok so we cut out another cherokees floors and welded into place in my cherokee. now after we finish the welds any reccomendations on what i should coat the floor with after the sanding and before the Herculiner? thanks guys ill post some pics in a day or so
