I would like to have a decent bumper style jack that can be used on a bone stock XJ with stock bumpers. The only thing I have found so far are the Hi-Lift with a tire sling because I don't think stock bumpers can manage the strain.
Should I just go hi-lift with the sling or am I missing something ? Any suggestions ? What do you guys use ?

The downside to lifting from bumpers is that you have to lift the chassis past suspension droop to get a tire off the ground.
What is the main purpose, to change a wheel or for recovery?

Really the only safe options i see is a floor jack or a high lift with the wheel attachment. The stock bumpers are basicly sheet metal you'd tear it off trying to lift with it lol.I would save up for off road bumpers so you have pull points and lifting points. If you can weld there are some diy kits that are cheaper. And a few smaller bumper companies like http://aresfabrication.com/

Exhaust jack. http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/safet...ustairjack.php
A high-lift jack can also be used as a winch, just need winch points.

A high lift jack is a must have item for any off road use like lifting, winching, rescue use in emergency's to extricate someone. Hi-Lift and others makes many acc. to go with the jack for special apps. I don't have one but Hi-Lift does make a setup just for a stock bumper lift.
I have a winch but the jack has been used (as a winch) with it several times at the same time to get out of a real bind.

That's all good advice. Maybe I should have asked more about Hi-Lift accessories. My buddies all have them but they have hard points to apply them to.
Theres a few base plates for from like http://raptoworx.com/hi-lift-jack-base/ or http://wabfab.3dcartstores.com/Wabbit-Foot_p_596.html and even a wide big plastic one from high lift. But really all those depend where you live what type of ground you have.

Go online to Quadratec's web site and look at all the Hi-Lift offerings, I have about all of them. The large base has been a life saver many times for me on soft/uneven ground.

Saw a rig that had a piece of Chanel bolted behind stock bumper, seemed to work OK.
