If you're willing to drop $8500 on some POS build, why not drop the same money into rehabbing your current XJ. For $8500 there isn't much you couldn't fix/repair/replace including a new engine!

Yeah, or buy an older full size 2wd pickup for maybe $2K, and trailer your XJ to the west coast and fix it up as you have time.

U could get a low mileage stocker for that price or less. There's a dealership in Huntington NY that has a bunch of them. Not sure how far from there u would b in jersey. Look on cargurus.com. Search for cherokees by radius from your zip.
