welcome to the forum; that is a pretty broad question...I would suggest you spend some time reading the basic and tech forums and draw your own conclusions. To give you a good answer we would need to know what you plan to use the XJ for ( ie daily driver and mild trails or the other extreme of trailer queen and extreme offroad). Also, what is your budget? The only thing I can tell you without that info is to buy a 4.0L engine in as good a shape as you can afford. If you will tell us more, we can help more. You can generally buy something fixed the way you want it cheaper than you can do it yourself, if you have time to wait and look around. Just my $0.02

Cool man thanks n I'm looking 2 spend around $5000 but I would like it lifted already n some stuff done 2 it n it would be my daily driver n I also would like 2 take it off roading 2
buying one lifted already you gotta take a good look at everything because know whos how much damage the previous owner has done it already you also gotta ask yourself how much off roading will you be doing and to what extreme lvl

Before buying my xj I was considering buying an already lifted one myself. After looking at jeeps already modified you QUICKLY realize they had already beat em up themselves. I would just buy a stock one from a grannie (thats what i did....only had 83K on it!) and do the work yourself. That way you know your the only one to wheel it and you can take pride in the changes you make to it.

i agree with you find yourself a nice clean stock xj with low miles depending on the year you wanna get you can find one in good shape for an ok price a buddy of mine just picked up a 93 2 door 5 speed 92k with cragers and all terrain t/a s otherwise all stock for 1800 his budget is 4 grand so when hes done he will have a nice xj ready for mild trails you jus gotta take some time find yourself somethign clean i would strongly suggest get a friend or someone familiar with jeeps to take a look with you it never hurts to have someone that know everything to look for and it will definetly help you in getting a nice jeep good luck looking forward to seeing a build thread soon

Unmolested is always the best way to go. Hacked up wiring and a cobbled together lift will almost always cost you more time, money, and headaches in the long run.
