You'd never own a Ford but you'd modify an MJ to haul a car trailer...

Why are you opposed to selling the MJ and purchasing a 5,000 dollar truck to tow with? To make the MJ remotely close to able to tow the Xj you'd spend way more than that.
Why not sell the MJ and buy a J-20? A J-20 would tow the Jeep MUCH better than an MJ.

Im not getting riled up i didnt mean to come off that way. And im against spending 5k on a new truck cause i got this thing for 600$ and im having a kid soon so most of my money will be going to kid instead. I have a friend with a j-20 but know way he would trade/sell and it needs a complete resto. I would love to have a cummins but i got lucky i was able to convince the wife to let me buy the mj. And im not dead set on towing my xj with the mj but if i have to id like to know my truck has the ability to do so
My buddy has a solid j20 for sale in Columbus Ohio. 36" iroks I believe, plow, roll bar, 360 v8....think he wants like 2 grand for it. I think its got a 60 out back and a 44 front

Getting this huge amount of rolling mass moving isn't going to be the problem. I could get it moving with a honda civic...
STOPPING this huge rolling mass is going to be the problem.
and you can't count on Trailer brakes to do all of the work... If you lose your ground or the wire comes unplugged you're screwed.
Not trying to drag this out, but on my old mans boat trailer he has a nice setup. He has regular trailer brakes with a controller in the cab. But also on the hitch of the trailer itself it has a master cyl of sorts. As you slow down it forces that small tang that grabs the ball of the hitch back in to a ram that presses on that master cyl, stopping the trailer manually. He tows a tri axle trailer with a boat that too heavy for his truck and this was his answer to stopping it. The answer for getting it moving was a bully dog tuner and LP injection! Lol.

I already know stopping is the problem did you not read what i said earlier how getting it going isnt the problem? Im by no means an idiot and ive towed many trailers with cars. Shoot i towed my 88 conquest from new york with a 2000 cherokee and didnt have a single problem granted that was with a dolly and not a full trailer but still alot of weight. And if you rely mainly on your brakes and trailer brakes to stop your your an idiot because their a mechanical part and mechanical parts fail and also if your towing and not leaving plenty of space between cars and not using your head then you have no business towing a trailer.
