I won a open class competition mud bog in my cherokee with bald 31's with no oil and sea water in the rad. Then I flipped it 4 times drunk trying to shoot heroine on the freeway driving home. Still runs fine today, just put a lil lucas in the motor.

My original A/C works perfect too..

Bought a 93 Cherokee for $300 for parts. It was out of oil so I threw in some used oil and started it up. Made a hellva racket, but it ran and moved around the yard by itself. Upon teardown we found this hole in the side of the block.

One of my Cherokees has 430xxx on the original motor. No rebuilds, no nothing. Every original part. Was daily driven about 145 miles a day for a few years. Still runs like the day we drove it off the Jeep lot.

How tough is it?

Tough as a piece of jerky wrapped in kevlar inside a bullet proof glass box!

Heard a story (on CF I think) about an xj dieing due to water getting in the intake. He got pulled out, pulled all the plugs out, cranked it, it shot out water like a fountain out of the plugs holes, did it til it stopped coming out. Put plugs back in, fired it up. Drove home.

The only other engine I could see doing that is whatevers in the Plymouth Sundance. Lol

Turbos=more fun
I haven't gotten to that point yet.
Maybe a short nose m90 ford.
Saab turbos would work great.
