My friend had a 96 and the radiator blew, causing water pump to run dry and seized up, thus causing the head gasket to blow and the head warped, were still 50 miles from home, so we decided to keep on going, and made it safely at home, That was two years ago, Fixed the leak on radiator and replaced the water pump, put in plenty of bar leak, and still driving it today, it's at 225,000 on the clock... The 4.0 wouldn't give up even when it's running extremely hot. It's still leaking but it keep going on strong

You can run the thing on camel **** and it still runs better than the newer engines that come in the JKs.

How tough is the 4.0 engine? Isn't that like asking how tough Chuck Norris is? simply put; Jeep 4.0 engine = Chuck Norris of engines.
Also Ive seen one run for 10 minutes in water half way up the radiator....with absolutely no oil pan what so ever.

Thumsup!! True. I hydro locked mine twice bent a rod or 2 and I used it as my daily driver for 3-4 months before it broke my oil pan. I still dove it a couple miles home with no oil in it

correct me if im wrong, but isnt the engine block cast iron?

that would explain 300,000 miles + from a gas motor

Iron block and iron head.. That's exactly why. No bs aluminum head or block on the 4.0

Today I found the rev limiter in a mud hole.

A freind has a beater jeep with the 4.0L and I am laughing because he ran it for a week with a 0331 head crack color oil.

Changed the oil and filter and still driving to this day!
