On my maiden voyage with my 97 Cherokee sport, I nailed a few bumps causing it to stall and now I believe my fuel injection pump is shot based on some pressure diagnosis. How do I siphon the gas in my tank so i can remove it and replace the pump?

 

With a nice long piece of tube
Get to sucking. lol

 

Get a handpump.
Although I'm not sure if they put a screen in there to keep people from stealing gas or not.

 

Good point. Maybe he could disconnect a fuel like or something? Not sure

 

Try it down the filler neck if it has a screen see if you can unhook the filler neck and go in the hole in the tank for it.

I know on my '89 there was an anti-siphon block.

 

I replaced my fuel pump (several times) and you don't need to siphon. Just have a jack, of a bud, under the tank when you drop it. It ain't that big and hence ain't that heavy. The fuel pump comes off the top so that fact that there is still gas in there isn't a problem.

 

When I did mine I borrowed a transmission jack from a buddy, made it tons easier

 

If the tank is full, it will be that heavy. :P

 

Yeah, I think mine was half full when I did it.

 

So after replacing the pump, I did not need to siphon but my bad girl will still not fire. We did a reading with a scanner to find that the crank position sensor was among the problems and after that we got gas to finally flow through the lines, but she still won't turn over. We tried replacing the spark plugs (needed to be done anyone since the previous owner clearly neglected it) thinking maybe the lack of spark could have been it, but no dice.

 

i cut an access hole in my floor and popped one of the vents off the top of the tank.

put hose in top of tank. wrap mouth around hose and suck, but don't suck too much, or you will get a mouthful of gas and might have some major health issues. put end of hose in gas can below level of tank, wait. it should be siphoning pretty good by now.
