Ive got a 91 with a 93 motor with 140,000 plus on it. No problems besides the factory 4.0L oil leak.

My '01 has 150k on it (just rolled over yesterday) and runs great. As a previous poster said, the question for a jeep is not how many miles it has on it, but how it's been treated. I've found that if you are capable of maintaining it, and finding the small problems before they become big problems, tons of engines (but especially this 4.0) can last forever.

So the question is, how well was it maintained previously? A good indication is if the previous owner kept records. A better indication is to drive it and listen to it /real/ good.

But even an engine rebuild isn't /that/ big a deal. I just helped a buddy with his '91 rebuild (previous owner let it run out of oil). I think it was about $1200 in parts including the engine, and a good two weekends of work.

Mine is an 87 and has about 157k on it. Although I have no idea if its been worked on or rebuilt as I just got it a couple months ago. Seems to run pretty strong aside from a few problems that I am sorting out.

91XJ 4.0 HO Limited 203,000mi. Bought her three years and 23,000mi. ago. For 3K. She was already outfitted with a 4" Rusty's lift, Bushwacker fender flares, chrome Smittybuilt nerf bars. Warn front bumper with brushguards and brand new 33" BF Goodrich AT tires. Other than some odds and ends not many mechanical problems. She was deffinatly rode hard. But I fell in love and we all no how that goes!

213k and runs like new. Floor it and not a hint of engine noise. Just power.

have 1997 sport, had a radiator leak at 231000 miles never could find it and just kept adding fluid, bad mistake, it overheated on I45 and cracked the head. If i had fixed it i think it could have gone at least another 100k. FYI- a push mower uses about 11000 gal of air to burn 1gal of gas. So imagine how much air a jeep engine sucks in. Your air filter is your front line of defence for engine longevity.
