With any used vehicle its buyer beware. A newer model with less miles could possibly be in worse condition than an older model with 200,000+ miles, based on how people maintain them. Just see what the fluids look like before you buy listen for strange sounds and you or ur dad just make your best personal judgement, and if something does turn out bad with the jeep after you buy it. Then the part that we hate to love starts, FIXIN then BREAKIN then FIXIN and so on

I'm 45, and my 85 year old father cussed when I bought my wife a cherokee, because "all jeeps are mechanically unreliable."
I beg to differ. If you maintain them properly, they will apparently run forever. Esp. if they have the 4.0. There are certain issues they have, like all vehicles, but if you follow this website, and read up on other peoples' experience, you can keep it running forever.
The Cherokee is just an easy vehicle to work on.

89 pushing 191....and some odd numbers after that! Runs like a champ, had some minor issues as most vehicles do at this age, but luckily it had been maintained before i purchased it, so they were easy fixes for the most part lol

My 87 just went over 205k, got it 1 1/2 years ago for a grand w/189k. cleaned it up and replaced all the gaskets and seals I could get to. runs like a top. Last winter I was making 200 mile round trips every other weekend through the passes in southern Oregon to pic up my kids at freeway speeds, no problems!!!
