How Many Cherokee XJs are left?
I just been woundering about this. I know their is a poll of how many Cherokee XJs were build "Post link to that" but is it possible to know how many of our Cherokee XJs are left in the U.S.? I think once a vehicle is gone/wreaked the VIN gets a Salvaged title. Does those get recored to some database?

speaking of which, I have a friend that was a ford tech at the time. he used to videotape the disabling process of those vehicles. he said they had to treat the 4.0 jeeps 2-3 times for it to finally kill it. at least they didn't go down without a fight.

I've heard the same stories from numerous techs.

It was the goverment thing to get older vehicles off the road. can trade in any old vehicle to get a new one. dont remeber how much was given tho. But at the JY Ive seen alot of XJs brand new looking no rust on them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_Allowance_Rebate_System
And I guess some people from what I heard seen some good looking trucks on the lot that were traded for the program, and offered to buy and were not allowed to buy them. "The not dismatled ones"

Cash for clunkers was a ****ing joke. They would lt you trade in a perfectly good 12 year old XJ to buy a Toyota...it didn't do anything but make the japs more money and waste energy and resources building new cars.
The 4.0s don't go down without a fight, but its sad to watch...I know a few we're saved before being killed and crushed though.
As for how many are left? 2.8 million were built, nowadays, I'd say around 1.5 million are still on the road...you see them by the dozens, and here in the northeast you dot see many 10-15 year old vehicles in the same numbers as you do XJs.
There's a ton left, but they aren't going to
Make more anytime soon, we need to make them last...and use junk XJs to keep ours going.

if you dont remember cash for clunkers, consider yourself lucky.
what a scam that was.
and xjs will be with us for a while longer.. i still see perfectly good straight stock ones by the dozens round here.

They put a silica mix into the oil and ran them till they seized. My buddy worked at a junkyard at the time and they had to get special containers for the sludge they drained out of the motors. Stuff was nasty. Lots of nice stuff came in. I made a lot of money buying tires off of the C4C cars and reselling them on CL. The whole program was a joke and hurt the economy more than it helped.

As much as that angers me too that represents a mere 0.01% of all XJs produced. It sucks but that's barely a scratch, let alone a dent. Consider how many have been lost to ****ing road salt. 250,000? 500,000?
It was but let's be honest here:
Toyota & Honda: Built in NA with unionized NA labor.
American Big 3: Built in NA with unionized NA labor.
Toyota & Honda: Built with mostly imported parts.

Toyota & Honda: Publicly traded in American markets.

Toyota & Honda: Successful companies with a solid financial standing
American Big 3: Massive incompetence bailed out by the US govt... (Canada bailed out part of Chrysler too)
Toyota & Honda: Profits hoarded by private individuals, never to re-enter the economy again, driving up inflation and increasing the wealth gap.

Chrysler: You mean Fiat? Lol
Ford: Did not require bailing out due to a massive international empire. They're more popular in Britain than over here!
Chevrolet Aveo: Rebranded Daewoo sub-compact imported from South Korea.
Ford Transit: Build in Mexico and shipped completely assembled as a passenger vehicle, imported and passenger components shredded and disposed to make it a commercial cargo van.
Nissan Titan: Optional Dana axles
WWII was a long time ago, ever since Japan has been America's *****.
If you want a new American car, buy a Tesla lol. And if you want money to stay local stay the hell away from Wal Mart
Certainly can't argue with that. Such is the way of economic stimulus, it's a damn shame that money wasn't made useful and put into infrastructure projects. As much as I hate our current federal government, road work is definitely a good use for tax money during a slump. You should see kind of BS China pulls; they build entire towns just to artificially boost their GDP.

Mine probably has the road salt damage, but will be getting it fixed. Already have the new panels. Heres images of my underneith: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/19...49861/index15/
I just watched 2 videos and its sad seeing the Cherokee one, It took about 5min for the Cherokee and a Mazda "Ranger" about 1min. The Cherokee looked like a 89-90 year, no rust really just needed touching up.
