Default How to clean up spilled Liquidwrench/PB Blaster?

I had an entire bottle of penetrating oil (liquidwrench) spray out inside of a toolbox . I cleaned everything off, but I cannot seem to get the horrible scent out of a new nylon tow rope that I had inside of the toolbox.

Any ideas on how to get rid of the smell? I tried laundry detergent, simple green, dish soap- and it still smells horrible. I was thinking of trying some purple power degreaser, but I don't want to ruin the brand new nylon strap.

Any thoughts or advise?

A nylon rope soaked in hydrocarbons. Toss it. You've no idea what the strength of it has degraded to or will degrade to over time. Just get a new rope. It will be safer.

Yea I'd throw it out if I were you... Chalk it up as a loss and a lesson learned.

Are you all kidding me? Its a freakin tow strap not a sweater. Don't throw it out, you've just got a spare now.

Either you could mask/clean the smell or hide the smell, the latter is alot easier. Toss that strap in one of those XL ziploc bags or even a trash bag.

I work on gas and steam turbines.....we use some pretty crazy chems, I would suggest WD40 believe it or not, soak it down, rinse with water hose, then soap and water to get ride of some of the WD.....air dry....I hope this works.....

thanks guys, I think I might try the wd40 or brake parts cleaner and worst case just throw it in a zip lock bag. I guess the only reason I really have to get the scent out of it is because I keep the thing in my jeep. I am kind of worried about it breaking due to the penetrating oil, but it can't be too bad as a spare.
