I was thinking about this the other day, How about cutting a hole in the cowl to vent the engine compartment to the outside? Then you could have a vent but look stock. Similar to how people do cowl intakes but leave it open to the engine compartment.

How much heat does that escape? I noticed a nice difference with my new vents, but that might restrict a good portion of it. Is it always like that?

I leave them on for DD'ing and remove them for the trails. I sprayed the XJ down pretty good yesterday because of all of the mud from sunday with the drip pans on and they worked better than I thought they would. Hardly any water got in and what did get in couldnt cause any damage.

So I'll be applying the dielectric tomorrow after work. I only have the smaller tube, since that's all Advanced had. I'll get more if needed. But I have a question. I was looking at the vents today, and was wondering if I could add two electric fans under the hood, big enough to either cover all, if not most of the holes. I could wire them up to my current electric fan that's behind my rad that I have on when driving around town. I assume as long as the fans can withstand water, and are mounted/connected properly, there shouldn't be an issue, and they should deal with a good amount of the heat. Not to mention be nice on the trail.

Thoughts?

That's why i use di-elextric grease. If you keep it on the electronics then there's nothing to worry about.

Do you think adding those fans would help? My fan behind the rad pulls in air, and those two would push it out, not to mention it'll help with the rising heat when not moving/on the trails.

No need for the fans. Heat rises! The heat will escape thru the vent quick enough. And the mechanical fan will blow across the engine and out thru the vents pushing the heat right out.

x2. Heat escapes just fine on mime as it is. Even on the trails my aux fan doesn't kick in.

there really isnt a reason for that eather i have on my spark plugs and wires. but that is for if i go into deep water but if the water reaches that point then i am already in so deep **** so i have no worries when i put mine in it will be all the same and maybe i wont clean my engine as much

You do realize that they come from the factory with some di-electric on the connections, right? it's not much, but it's there. Reason being is the engine bay is not waterproof (just check your bay after driving on some wet roads) and electronics tend to not respond well to water. Is it necessary? Not if you like replacing more electronic parts more often than not.

For me, I want it on my under-hood electronics. Reason should be understood by this pic

ok understood by you bc your crazy lol and i was just putting it out there that it really isnt necessary for people that wont go through alot of water and were the vents are there really isnt anything to get all that wet that coud kill your engine ( like ecm)

Here are some pics.

Cheers

Winter is coming up soon, and I need to do something that prevents as much snow as possible from not getting into my engine bay, without restricting that much airflow. I'm thinking scoops.

The quoted text shows how they look now. I was thinking of making my own, but I'm not that handy and could only come up with an actual box shape.. I was thinking of something like these, but they're too expensive. Anything similar to these that'll fit over and that are cheaper?

Other sites only have rounded looking ones, and it throws the XJs look off.
