Default Hood Louvers

Just finished installing my hood louvers. Can't wait to see if these actually reduce the engine temps any! I had Hydrographics put on them of skulls, its pretty sick looking.

Ok...well I went out on a drive this evening (15 miles) and did notice a difference in engine temp. Looks like it dropped the engine temp about 7-10 degrees (at all speeds, especially from 40-60 mph), OAT was 43 degrees. I could even tell, by watching the temp gauge, when the thermostat opened and closed (which I could never see before). I'm also running a 180 degree thermostat and stainless header. Now I need to check the temps out on the trail...I also wired up my fan to a switch in the dash so I can turn it on when needed, which should help a little on the trails...we'll see!

Sweet louvers. You put the skull graphics on or did you have a customs shop do it?

FYI- hood vents do nothing for coolant temp drops. It will lower engine BAY temps but not the coolant. You're getting a lower temp reading because you have a lower temp thermostat and it's only 40 degrees outside. I run a 180 t-stat right now as well. The only reason why I ran the lower temp t-stat was because I'm running 2 electric fans and they cycled more than I'd like. So I get a small jump on it with the thermostat opening a little sooner. After a while driving and it warms up outside, the temp does reach normal temperature and the fans do still come on. You'll see when it gets hot out, you'll run at normal temp again. The hood vents are great for releasing heat to try to alleviate the misfire that occurs on the #3 injectors.

The hood vents do vent the engine bay heat... which in turn reduces engine temps slightly. I have had the 180 t-stat since early last summer and I constantly run at just above the mark below 210 (so 190ish)! Even when it's 90-95 out. And when it's time to hit the trails I just switch my fan on and it stays the same.

lol Thanks.

I also build high performance experimental composite aircraft (Lancair) that run at speeds over 300 kts and venting the cowling to reduce heat is essential! Same principal...
