Since the OP is asking about FABRICATING a driveshaft this seems like a good of a place as any.

I've made a bunch for my rig but there are some things that are manditory if and when you build one.

1.) Your HREW or D.O.M. must be cut perfectly square.
2.) Since you're a welder you'll already know this, but I'll say it any...
WELD AREA PREP WELD AREA PREP WELD AREA PREP
3.) Take it to a drive line shop and have it balanced before you attempt to use it.

then you obviously didnt read that link. I just joined today and read the sticky. the first line says, "The Fabrication section is confusing and misunderstood. When we hear "fabrication" we think this is the perfect place to post questions about building things right? Perfectly logical assumption, but WRONG. This belongs in cherokee chat."

so yes its the wrong section

i used to work in a diesel mechanic shop that specialized in the making of drive shafts , you basically need a lathe, a welder ,and the components. it only costed us 50-200 to make them 200 being a over the road truck

I would do it for the road. But I am lucky to have the skills and equipment minus the balancing stuff.

Right material + proper welds + high speed dynamic balance and inspection = good driveshaft.

This is not fabrication. You are not in the process of making anything. Please read the stickies, they're plenty of them....
