Default Homemade diff guard

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone has taken a stock diff cover from either a dana 30 or c8.25 and cut the upper portion of it and used the bottom as a diff guard? Kind of like this.

I have one on my 96 works great. I also have one made from 2 stock cover welded together. Chopped up one and welded it to the other. Both styles are on a dana30

I've thought about doing this but i don't have a plasma cutter so i thought it would just make it more difficult

You can do it with cutting wheels and a grinder. Takes little longer but it works

Seems like it wouldn't fit right, since the inner dimensions are different than the outer dimensions due to the thickness of the cover

I have 1/8" spacers on mine between the covers. It lets crap fall out of it and it bolts up easy. Just need longer bolts.

Do you have to weld in the spacers? I don't have access to a welder but I figure I can just put in a nut as the spacer and use longer bolts?
Just want to confirm, thanks
