I wouldn't use a nut because it'd make getting the bolts out a pain. Stack up 2 or 3 washers between plates and use slighty longer bolts

Yes, 1-1/4" is the length you want.

I used 1-1/2" bolts but I also spaced the two covers with drilled out nuts.

I will be looking for a D 30 cover this weekend, that is a nice DIY upgrade.

You guys have done some nice work hope mine comes out as nice as the ones pictured.

VHT Engine Metallic
SP402 Burnt Copper

It's kind of expensive, but goes on nice doesn't drip and dries fast.
By far my favorite flashy color I use
