Oh ok good to know. Does it matter what vehicle I get the balasts from if I find a set in the jy since I have H4 bulbs and harness already?

OP, did you say that you aren't running the relay harness upgrade yet? That alone will make your headlights significantly brighter. Significantly. It'll save your headlight switch, too.

Not if the manufacturer is correctly marketing the color temperature of their bulbs. Wattage has no effect on color temperature in HID systems.

I guess i should have been clearer. Going from 35w to 55w will make it look whiter. Ive seen the difference with my own eyes

1. The Putco harness upgrade will likely double the output of your existing lights.

2. The stock headlight switch has difficulty keeping up with stock 55w sealed beams. Running 100w H4s off that switch without relays will make it stop working. Quickly.

I'm not doubting you at all. My point is that if a 55w 8000K HID bulb produces 6000K light then why aren't they marketed as 6000K? Because the manufacturer screwed up, that's why. Light color isn't influenced by wattage, a 1w 6000K LED will produce the exact same color light as a 55w 6000K HID even though the 55w HID draws fifty-five times more power.

In that case shouldnt bulbs be rated for different colors? (2 per bulb) since you can connect a bulb to a 35w ballast or a 55w. And i believe the rating people see while shopping for hids is a color temp while running on a 35w ballast. im sure there is the same color output even on a 55w ballast but its overpowered by the higher ouput of light which for some reason makes it seem whiter.

You're right, it could very well be the way your eyes perceive the light from the higher wattage ballast. Also, because the color is determined after the arc has heated the metal halide (usually mercury) to the correct operating temperature, it would take longer for bulbs powered by the 35 watt ballast to reach that temperature than those on the 55 watt ballast so the lights will begin producing their correct color much faster at the higher wattage.

I plan on building my own using 8 or 10 awg wire with a 40 amp high beam relay and a 30 amp low beam relay for each headlight. Im leaning mor towards 8awg just so its way over kill lol. Heres the write up on the headlight upgrade I plan on doing what do yall think? http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoHeadlightLoom.htm

That's good stuff if you want to build it yourself. I'm not sure the H4 plugs will support 8 awg but if you can make it work, rock on

Go Jeep rocks.

Those charts are very approximate.
This, I run only 4300k in my Headlights. got 5000k in my offroad lights. I will never got higher then 5000k again. Ive had 6000k and 8000k in previous vehicles. just too much blue and harder to see, especially in weather.
