Default Hi-lift questions...

Need some help choosing a hi-lift to mount onto my new rack.
I have never used a Hi-lift before and don't know much about them just that it is much needed!

what one to buy?? and how big??
Cast/steel
All cast
X-treme
42" 48" 60"

Also what accessory's are NEEDED... looking at how to mount it, and things I need to use it.

I am running a RE 3.5" on 31's and its gonna be mounted on a Surco basket
and will be using it on JCR front bumper and a hitch in the back.

Thanks!

Yeah I looked at the 60" I'm thinking it might be a little bit big. kinda leaning toward the 48" unless the 60" is a must?
how is that black cast and steel holding up to corrosion?

I will be using it in the field and also in the driveway, right now I need a cinder block under my floor jack and thats not giving me the warm and fuzzy.

I have the 48" off brand "farm jack" it works good so far, It's cheaper and the same design buying hilift brand isn't necessary imo

i have had mine on my roof for about 4 months now and it is all faded and on the black part were the jack slides it is a little rusty i am gonna take it off in the winter when i park my jeep to do them in POR-15. mine is also a 60" and i think if your gonna use it as a come along then bigger is better. but if you just going to use it for jacking go with the smaller one and get one of those high lift bases like this http://www.quadratec.com/products/92200_98.htm and also if your going to have it mounted on the roof rack the handle lock that comes with it it don't work so well so get one of these and they are cheaper ones just to show you http://www.ebay.com/itm/Daystar-High...#ht_3902wt_906

hope this helps

I think the regular 48" one is fine for most situations. It's also a lot easier to store.

If you don't have a winch or other means of recovery, the "ORK" and a length of chain will complement the jack. The "lift mate" will make the ORK work better and can aide in trail repairs or emergencies. I don't know the company name, but I replaced my Hi-lift handle with another handle that doubles as a shovel or hoe. Very versatile tool if you know how to use it to it's full capability.

I have a 48" hi lift jack and it has saved the day multiple times. I don't have the wheel attachment but it looks like it would come in handy since you can lift your wheel up without lifting your suspension first. Also make sure you get some sort of base to use. It doesn't have to be the one hi lift sells...heck I use a 2x10 plank of wood and it works great.

Thanks for all the input looks like tomorrow I will be ordering the " standered"
48" red all cast Hi-lift from Amazon for $70 bucks. and one of the handle keepers.

mainly due to the fact that I have a winch on front so I dont necesarily need the 60" and like thatXJguy said easyer to store. the x-treme didnt seam woth the extra money... I do like the POR-15 idea I might do that too after its been on the roof for a bit. as for the base I think I will just rock a few cut down 2x4's for a bit and see how that works out. and maybe the "ORK" in the future it never hurts to have a back up!
