Default thanks.

Hey guys, thanks for all the brutal honest feedback lol.
Let me be a little more detailed.

I have a carfax, and my mechanic has looked at it, it's not flood damanged, or anything like that.

I 100% agree with 15.5 being a bit high, but i don't agree with paying less than 12, nor do i agree with the 6 being what it was traded in at. Yes, it's not 4x4 but im also simply looking for a nice, SUV that's dependable, and rather safe.

with that said, ive looked at murano's, rouges, liberties, Tahoes, Equinax, suburbans, Tuscans, and a few others.

Now, you guys like 4x4 that's a given, that's what jeep stands for. but try to look at it from my point of view and see if that opens up. the car has been on the jeep dealership for no more than a month, as i go once a month to look at their new used cars, i know it wasn't their, and carfax listed it as being placed on sell august 28th. Aside from that, out of ALL the SUVS we looked at, the jeep had the less miles , and it was by far much cleaner inside the car.
The tahoe is ugly, the suburban is even uglier, and im not going to pay 14 - 15 for either of those unless they are pretty old. the tuscan is nice, but it's around the 19 - 23 grand area, same with murano and rouge. I don't want 4x4, it's just not for me. now, the part i don't have a choice in, my fiance hates just about every car i look at , this is one of the VERY few she's in love with, and buying a car your fiance doesn't like, is not really an option.

I will try to get the price to 14.4 and let you guys know in a little bit, im supposed to go meet 'em at 11.

and the guy who asked about the eclipse , it was a 2008 Eclipse GT. I owned nothing on it, not a dime, it was paid for, and im putting an addition 3 g's down, the car was worth 8.7, plus my 3 , puts me at about 11.7k down on a *( currently 15.5k car )* so i'll finance somewhere aruond 4 . If that doesn't work, we'll keep the eclipse ( as it's paid for ) and finance the jeep to have three cars ( already have a corolla ) .

My main concern, and question was about reliability, thinking away from the idea it MUST be a 4x4, is it not a reliable car ? is it still not safe ?

Thanks

This is an XJ forum so you're gonna have pretty biased (against) opinion here of anything not XJ and not 4x4. That being said it does have low miles. But you are being reamed with the price. Don't pay more than 14k for it. 14.5k at the most. Be prepared to walk away. Having the wife there always complicates things bc the dealership knows she love love loves it and will out the pressure on you like we married men know our wives can do.

Have a talk w the wife and tell her we will walk away unless they come down to 14.5. Good luck!

I myself would keep the eclipse as a second car (just because of gas prices). And look for a cheaper 4x4.

Ok, so you are in Texas. You don't need 4x4 if you aren't wheeling it. It's dry most the time.

A 2wd in Texas will sell for more than it would in Northern Michigan so resale may not be that bad given your area.

If you like it and the wife likes it and your TRUSTED mechanic likes it and you don't mind paying the price, get it. 15.5 seems a little high, the dealer is trying to play the "it's practically brand new, its low miles yadda yadda" card like it's a classic or something. It's used so try and get it around 14k.

So, 11 huh? Is that a time you picked or the salesman? Don't make it convenent for him. Look, it's Friday, they will have plans, go 15 mins before close and then deal. They will want to leave, it would be nice if it was end of month because of quota and units sold but it's not. Get to the finance department, almost sign the papers, then ask to look at it again, while you ate looking at it say you aren't sure and stick to it until they come down again. Say ok to that price if you want, then go back in and sign the papers. If you go late, and they know you are wanting it and that you will buy it, wait it out until they are really wAnting to go home and get to the plans they made and they will sell it for what you want just to get outta there and get to the bar with their buddies.

Your onky getting 8.7 for the eclipse? If you tried selling that privately or somewhere else you would probably get close to what they are asking for the jeep, and it seems financialy its not that hard for you to get it, if you had like 4grand and needed 10 then you are looking into payments forever

thanks for the info guys.

The car was put up for sale for about three months at 9000 OBO.. it's semi beat up ( few rear ends ) looks amazing still, just chipped paint. Car has 65K miles, two owners.

the time was for him tot he other guy, i changed it on him until around 2pm CST, texas time. we got him down another 200 bucks, but that's not gonna cut it. I did some more local searching for cars in the same mileage, and i just can't find any. I guess your right though, it's really up to what she and i want.. i just wanted to know if it was being purchased for the right reasons, decent looking SUV, -okay- price for what it is, and good reliability + safe.

but you guys nailed it, thanks so much

Financing 13k for a vehicle? Makes no sense to me. What's your payments? At $300/month you'd be paying on it for what a lil over 3 years. Ouch.

Glad you got what you wanted though.

collateral loan on our own money. 250/mo for 36 months with a 3k balloon, it's a semi effy way to do it.. but like you said it got me where i wanted, and my payments are affordable. plus the 3k will be easy

unfortunately because it wasn't financed through 'em, they don't offer any type of loan warranty ( some down here offer like, 48/48 ) depending on how long the loan is. because we didn't go through them, we just get 3k miles or 3 months. but i never put more than 50 miles a week on my cars, so im golden on that front.

I have a company ive used on almost all my other cars as a third part who are really really awesome, it's about 80 bucks a month for my plan, and they pay for everything up front, and they cover preventative maint. and they really are a pretty awesome company. Over all, after driving the car now for most of the day, the thing drives like it's brand spankin new, even the seatbelts feel like they just got assembled. If worse comes to worse i can always default on my own loan, as it's my cash anyways, and go with something else, obviously that's not what the goal is here, but it's mainly to build my own credit, plus it's my first SUV, and now that ive got a family on the way, im looking forward to using what it's good at ( for a smaller SUV ). and the lack of power people mention in the v6.. im just not seeing it. It's just as powerful as any other V6 small size SUV, even if it's not on paper, the thing gets me on the freeway with no sluggishness..

I kinda ranted on your question so to answer no, just a 3 month 3k mile

If you buy from private seller, you can get a good deal or bad deal. If you buy from a dealer, you'll always get a bad deal.
They are professionally trained to sweet talk you, to lie to you etc. to make you pay high price. They have nice, honest looking salesmen, who are trained to rip you off.
Why don't you spend time on craigslist and drive a few times to find a good deal?
If I were OK with 2x4, I wouldn't buy SUV, I would buy a nice car.
Whatever makes you happy.
