help possible coolant problem or more?
i have a 2001 xj
i noticed my jeep was making a weird noise but i'm not sure how to describe it. kinda like a rotational sound? anyways checked oil, looks good. reservoir for coolant looks green like it should. opened up the radiator cap and it looks green and brown.. a little was like a pale white brown.
i know this isn't good. not going to drive it till i get it figured out. going to call our mechanic tomorrow sometime and see what he says.
just wondering if anyone could give me an idea on how bad this situation might be or if it could possibly be an easy fix?
thanks

Mine is a bit brown as well. Not milky. My oil is good and trans fluid is spot clear... I'm going to flush my radiator and coolant out this weekend. Have you thought about that? Not sure what the sound could have been though.

hey guys. thanks for the replies...
had it towed to my/parents mechanic today... he said all fluids are fine, coolant is just a little dirty but ok. the noise was from the compressor pump bearings for the pulley that went bad. so i have to have the compressor pump replaced... all in all its better than i was thinking, thought it would be a lot worse. only going to run me about $400 to have him get a new pump and replace it.
still going to see what i can find a pump for as well my battery needs replaced.... don't want to spend a fortune on the batter but does anyone recommend one over the other?
thanks again.

some ac compressor clutches and bearing can be replaced without replacing the whole pump... try that... if not buy off ebay... when it comes to batteries theres only like 4 manufacturers in the world or some junk so pick your favorite with the best warranty...
kind of like antifreeze... only 2 companies actually produce it... buy the cheapest...

i did find the bearings for the pump, but looking at it someone at some point had already changed the front clip part of the whole compressor pump so i decided to just get a new one. unfortunately since i couldn't wait to have one shipped i'm just paying the $400 to have the one my mechanic found put in.
thanks for the great advice.. too bad i couldn't wait the time to save some money.
having my alternator checked once its running just to make sure my battery is bad n not the alternator. just gotta decide on which brand i want?!?

the only compressor pump in stock here runs about $275, plus the oil for the bearings and $100 for labor. i'm not getting the system flushed or anything like that. i can get it done in the summer when its warmer since i dont need it when its like 12* degrees out.
i know ordering one will be cheaper but i cant wait for it to come in then installed next week sometime so i just have to deal with the price.
