Default Help Fab guys - bumper design

Alright, I took a few different designs - JCR, LittleLeonard from here, and came up with this as a design. I'm looking at adding a Smittybilt 8000lb winch to it eventually. What do you think? Any advice before I build?

as long as you are a good welder, that will be a stout design.

Do you plan on plating the bottom as well? You will need it for strength as well as keeping mud and such from building up.

I would add extra support to the corners.

My dad's helping me do it. He's really good at welding so I'm not worried about that aspect.

I don't plan to plate the bottom. I wan to keep it around 60lbs. I'm more of a trail/rocks guy, so I'm not really worried about mud. As for strength, I was hoping the bracing would be good.

I'll do that. Just add another corner brace on the underside maybe?

Thats a hell of a nice design. As far as the corners, i would just box them in for the extra support, that way too, if the bumper ever presses up onto something, it will just slide off instead of wanting to grad hold and result in bending the bumper.. Also, make sure to tuck the bumper as much as possible so it isnt a big gawky bumper stickin way out.

Thanks! I was thinking about possibly boxing in the ends, but I'm still undecided on that. The design has it sticking out 8" from the grill but I think I'm going to take it down to 6". As long as I can bolt a Smittybilt XRC-8 to it I'm happy.

You should be able to, the smittybilts are compact winches.

Heres my home brew and how much its tucked. It sticks out just enough to serve its purpose and be functional.

If you plan to do rocks def plate the bottom unless you like getting hung up. If you plate it you will just slide off.
